Using three different productivity approaches, this study examines the impacts of unionization and labor market institutions on national productivity and productivity growth among nine OECD countries over a relatively long period: 1960-1988. A U-shaped relationship is found between the degree of unionization and national output. Moreover, "corporatism" interacting with unionism shows a positive and significant influence on national productivity, and countries with centralized wage bargaining system are more productive than those with intermediate and decentralized bargaining system. |
