With the rise of feminist awareness, writers began to put elements of female sovereignty into literature creations. Motherhood literary writing has changed from “maternal essay” into “self-aware motherhood writing” since writers began to think about motherhood and the meanings of life. Lily Hsueh’s ,Lung Yingtai’s, and Jian Jen’s works are the representative ones. Their writings revealed the experience of taking care of children and struggling between self-awareness and motherhood. Women’s lives changed, and thus they had started a completely different style of self-aware motherhood writing. Motherhood seems to be the most common thing among women; however, it’s a unique experience to each woman. Motherhood is not supposed to stop a woman from fulfilling herself but to make her own dream come true so they can live a better life. This thesis tried to discuss the multidimensional self-aware motherhood writing and to show the changing meaning of motherhood in old and modern times by taking Lily Hsueh,Lung Yingtai, and Jian Jen’s works for examples because they respectively revealed their life experiences of motherhood, self-awareness, and the struggles of breaking the hedges to develop personal styles of self-aware motherhood. |
