The diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle diseases have become more accurate and minimally invasive with the advances of foot and ankle arthroscopy. Over the past decade, posterior ankle arthroscopy, subtalar arthroscopy, and tendoscopy successfully reduced the potential soft tissue injuries, postsurgical pain, and wound-related complications. Posterior ankle arthroscopy allowed the diagnosis and treatment of posterior ankle impingement syndrome. Subtalar arthroscopy could not only manage the symptoms in sinus tarsi syndrome, but also refined the accuracy of this diagnosis. Tendoscopy managed tendinopathy of posterior tibial tendon, peroneal tendon, and Achilles tendon with success, thus offering an alternative to traditional open surgery. Arthroscopic repair of lateral ankle ligament for chronic lateral ankle instability reduced the soft tissue injury, and could managed associated intra-articular pathology simultaneously. |
