This is an excerpt from the Scientific Report of Taiwan Climate Change published by the National Science Council in 2011. This article summarizes critical information related to climate change in Taiwan through a Q&A format. Five critical questions are raised and answered in the article: (1) What is the overall climate trend in Taiwan relative to the global climate trend? (2) To what degree have the severe weather events (such as typhoon, heavy rainfall, drought, heat wave, cold surge) been affected by the climate change? Will they become more frequent and severe? (3) What is the relationship between climate change and climate events such as El Niño, Arctic Oscillation? (4) How is the natural disaster, which has been becoming more serious in recent years, related to the climate change? (5) What is the confidence level of the projected future climate in Taiwan? How should the government and the general public use or interpret information regarding climate change? |
