The purpose of this study is to explore the anxiety of learning Japanese experienced by students with a Japanese language major in universities and vocational universities, and the relationship between anxiety and learning effectiveness. Learners' anxiety in general universities is more significant than in vocational universities for both factors: 'expressing anxiety and fear of negative comments', and 'apprehension about failing schoolwork'. Freshmen from general universities also show a higher anxiety level than those from vocational universities in the same factors: 'expressing anxiety and fear of negative comments', and 'apprehension about failing schoolwork'. In addition, those who passed Level 2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test show a significantly higher level of anxiety in 'expressing anxiety and fear of negative comments' than those who passed Level 1 of the test. |
