Taiwan has become an aging society and people with disabilities are increasing. A new type of travel called accessible tourism (or barrier-free travel) has been developed. The United Nations“Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities", which was enacted in 2006 and implemented in 2008, promotes the development of accessible tourism. Developing tourism has been one of the major characteristics in Penghu County. Convenient transportation and facilities for scenic attractions are major factors influencing tourists to visit. This paper addresses the current status of transportation services for disabled tourists in Penghu, including sea, air, and land transportation. Scenic spots, hotels, restaurants, and shops are examined to support the facilities for disabled tourists and several accessible tourism routes are proposed. Finally, the suggestions of improving accessible tourism are provided. |
