Shipping transport is the most popular and convenient way to transport cargo. The piracy activities around the world substantially increase in recent years. Somalia Pirates attack ships and hijack the ship, cargo and crew. These properties can be returned only after ship owner pay for huge ransom. This study discusses the behavior of pirate attack and the coverage of marine insurance. It is found that the damage of pirate attack is covered within the 1983 Institute Hull Clauses and marine cargo is insured by 1982 (A) Institute Cargo Clauses. The ransom paid by ship owners to the pirate can be compensated by insuring the marine kidnap ransom insurance. |
