Organizing and categorizing various capabilities of port are helpful to identify the key capabilities and obtain the core competence. Also, such issue is important to practical and academic research. For the reasons, the main purpose of this paper is elementally to obtain the capabilities of port. At first, an integrated literature review and comment is focused on four perspectives of strategic management to have a basis on obtaining the capabilities. Then, three analysis approaches, i.e. experience knowledge analysis, functional analysis and value chain analysis, are used to sum up 9 broad functional capabilities versus 37 activity related capabilities. Finally, according to the previously conclusion, the issue of appraising key capabilities and core competence for port authority is suggested for the future. Capabilities need to be appraised against two key issues: their evaluating criteria and assessing relative importance or weight. |
