Studies on crafting have largely focused on employees to explore crafting behaviors within organizations. Few have explored the crafting behavior of people in leisure settings. This study aims to explore the crafting behaviors of individuals engaged in serious leisure activities. In-depth interviews were conducted with 14 respondents including amateurs, hobbyists, and volunteers engaged in three types of serious leisure activities, respectively. Following a rigorous content analysis of the results, a classification framework was established with four major dimensions: increasing structural leisure resources, expanding social leisure resources, enhancing challenging leisure demands, and decreasing leisure barriers. The dimensions further constituted 13 categories of leisure crafting behaviors. The study concludes with managerial implications and suggestions for future research. |
