Leisure plays an important role in improving the quality of life of contemporary women. However, the past literature has adopted a generic approach to leisure, ignoring its diversity and heterogeneity. This research aims to delineate the relationships among women's leisure participation (active and passive leisure), perceived stress, and authentic happiness. Further, it examines the effect of family participatory support on women's leisure participation. The results highlight the different leisure participation styles that women adopt in relation to both perceived stress and pursued happiness. Active leisure participation positively influences authentic happiness but has a negative impact on perceived stress when authentic happiness is a mediator. Passive leisure participation negatively impacts perceived stress but has a positive impact on happiness when perceived stress serves as a mediator. The findings also highlight that the moderating effect of family participatory support is statistically significant. Low family participatory support enhances relationships between leisure participation and effects on increased happiness and reduced stress, while high family participatory support has no significant effect. |
