Globalization and new technologies have brought us numerous new objects that not only integrate fully into our daily lives, but also significantly cultivate our new body habitus, especially in terms of cleanliness, comfort and convenience. Using this phenomenon as an example, this article attempts to contemplate the possibility of studying material culture from the history of experience of the body. I use researches of senses and comfort to elucidate how experience of the body has its own historical dimension and how following this historical dimension to study material culture allows us to approach the nature of everyday life closely. At last, I will compare this emerging approach with the other two past research frameworks, ”history of material culture” and ”history from things,” to further explain significance of studying the history of experience of the body. |
