Objective: The purpose of our study is to determine whether an association exists between the polymorphism of -152A/G (rs2275913) in the promoter region of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) with gouty arthritis (GA) in Chinese Han males.
Methods: The rs2275913 polymorphism was detected in 739 gout patients and 817 controls by real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) with Taqman probe method. The distributions of genotypic and allelic frequencies were analyzed with the χ2 test. An analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to determine the genotype-phenotype among cases.
Results: The frequencies of AA, AG and GG genotypes were 147, 340 and 252 (19.9%, 46.0% and 34.1%) respectively among gout patients, while they were 147, 400 and 270 (18.0%, 49.0% and 33.0%) in the controls. There were no statistical differences in genotypic frequencies of rs2275913 between gout patients and controls (χ2=1.58, P=0.454). Although the allelic frequencies of A and G in gout cases (42.9%, 57.1%) were different from those in the controls (42.5%, 57.5%), the data was not statistically significant (χ2=0.06, P=0.812).
Conclusion: Our results reveal no significant association between the polymorphism of rs2275913 and gout in Chinese Han male population. Therefore, IL-17A might not be associated with GA.
