Die-for-love news reportings-An Analysis of the Love Discourses Displayed in the Die-for-love News Reportings Covered in "Taiwan Daily News"
To die for love is an emotional action which could happen regardless of time and location, but the attitude toward dying for love changes due to factors such as time, religion and politics. In this analysis, a possible change of the die-for-love concept through time is revealed by investigating die-for-love news reportings in the most important official news media-" Taiwan Daily News" during Japanese colonial period. In Japanese colonial period, die-for-love incidents were not treated as pure suicides caused by love between man and woman, but rather seen as an discourse subject involving groups, social class and colonial aspect. As die-for-love incidents kept happening and finally evolve into a colonial social problem, the power holders (Japanese law enforcers and Taiwanese parents) also started to face challenges. Therefore, by investigating the transformation of die-for-love discourses during Japanese colonial period, a search for a possible viewpoint on love discussions which differs from previous studies is presented.
