Based on the characteristics of Taiwan’s public sector, this study categorizes public sector employees into civil servants and non-civil servant public sector employees, and compares their job satisfaction with that of the private sector employees. For the job satisfaction across these three groups of employees and in considering the possible moderating effects of sector-specific tenure on the association between the employees’ group and job satisfaction, corresponding hypotheses have been proposed. Compared to private sector employees, those who are employed as non-civil servant public sector workers have a higher level of job satisfaction. Yet, there is no significant difference in job satisfaction between civil servants and non-civil servant public sector employees. As to the moderating role of sector-specific tenure, our analytical results reveal that the job satisfaction of civil servants is decreasing as their sector-specific tenure increases, unlike what is found for the private sector or non-civil servant public sector employees. |
