Technological innovation is currently the mainstream in medical care industry. Specifically, artificialintelligence (AI) has become a critical role in medical care, as it can facilitate early diagnosis and treatment. The collection and analysis of big data can assist in decision making and improving med-ical efficiency. Moreover, this technology can be used to improve personal health management and to prevent high-risk disease and enhance overall health and wellbeing. Nursing staff are the first-line medical care professionals who interact with patients directly. Nurses are expected to carry out full medical assessments of patients, collecting data and recording various electronic health information. Nurse Practitioners play a pivotal role in medical decision-making process by developing treatment plans. As such, given the capabilities of AI and its prevalence within healthcare, understanding this technology and the ways to utilize it, is key to improve interprofessional communication, to facilitate the medical decision-making process and to increase quality of care. This article will introduce the application of AI in nursing and, by extension, provide a starting point for nurses and nurse practi-tioners to better understand its role in clinical care and research.
