Based on the similar Chinese culture and context, this study utilizes Bereday’s comparative method. By collecting and categorizing cross-straits public policies, nongovernmental studies and news reports, we paralleled and examined the ideology of international education, the scope of policies, developmental goals, and teacher professional development. Then, through comparison, we found that the purpose of China’s international education is to propagate nationalism, and to extend China’s cultural landscape which is very different from Taiwan’s. The core of Taiwan’s international education is internationalism and cosmopolitanism which tend to cultivate students’ attitude toward global responsibilities and multiple prosperities, let students become the global citizens who can concern about global issues. At the end of the study, we tried to suggest some ways for Taiwan by considering the global ideologies and the political environment, drawing lessons from the way China promotes their international education. |
