The principal plays an important role on school development, their leadership related to the success or failure of school education. In the increasing complex educational systems, to be an excellent principal, what principal needs are not only sufficient professional abilities, but a systematic professional support system that assists him improving capability. In order to understand the effectiveness of the implementation of the principal’s professional support system, and propose improvements to the principal’s professional support system strategy. This study aims to find out how the “Principal Professional Support System (PPSS)” in Taiwan can help principals act towards excellence. This study chose the “Implementation Plan for the Construction and Development of the Professional Support System for Elementary and Secondary School Principals” which promoted by the Secondary and Elementary School Principals Association of the Republic of China (SESPA) as the main object. This study used questionnaire survey to conduct a survey on the board members (include the president and supervisors) of the SESPA as well as local school principal associations participating in the project by means of intentional sampling, and a total of 86 valid questionnaires were collected. The results of questionnaires are highly agreement to execution way of PPSS, and there are a few Significant difference by different identity. Conclusions of this study are obtained as follows: (1) PPSS project has been highly agreed after three years of implementation; (2) PPSS is necessary to keep promoting continuously. Based on the conclusions, some suggestions might have for advance professional support system for secondary and elementary school principals in Taiwan. |
