The Department of Orthopedics of MacKay Memorial Hospital Tamsui Branch established a joint replacement team based on the principles of specialized development model for "departmental features and specialist development" to actively improve the quality of care for patients with total knee replacement. Before the surgery, through shared decision - making between the physician and the patient and the incorporation of care bundles for surgical site infection, the patient’s conditions are monitored and managed. After the patient is discharged, supervisory rehabilitation treatment processes are provided to the patient. To enable continuous improvement, the hospital will introduce enhanced recovery after surgery, which includes presurgical physical optimization, multimodal pain relieving and prevention of nausea and vomit during the surgery, and teamwork-based enhancement of recovery. Patients’ high satisfaction levels motivate the continuous improvement of the team and mark the value of care certification.
