If participatory, creative, and multicultural democracy is the chosen social aim, then let it serve also as the school curriculum aim, the one to which students and teachers direct their efforts. Following are seven principles that this article would suggest for determining such a curriculum. 1. teach the aim; 2. knowledge in use; 3. face to face discussion; 4. reflective citizen action; 5. diverse perspectives; 6. democratic values; 7. multiple associations. But it is indeed that these principles are interaction. They are an interdependent set. The meaning of any one principle is protean and thoroughly dispersed across the other principles. |
