To enhance the retroreflection and skid resistance of road markings, this study conducted experimental design on the material composition of markings and proposed a dual-performance marking material with long term performance. Based on the periodical inspection data, performance indicators were established to objectively evaluate the condition of markings at various stages and to develop classification standards to support decision-making of roadway authorities. The indicator results reveal that the dual-performance markings not only achieve excellent skid resistance performance, but also demonstrate outstanding retroreflection that is much superior than the conventional marking materials. Considering the real-world road situations, weight factors of lighting and rainfall conditions were applied to assess the overall service performance of markings. The results indicate that, regardless of lighting conditions or whether the environment is dry or rainy, the dual-performance markings consistently offer superior service performance. Finally, by integrating cost calculations and service life evaluations, a life cycle cost-benefit analysis was conducted to provide recommendations for selecting marking materials. This study confirms that dual-performance markings are suitable for broader future application, aiming to improve the quality of road marking services and enhance traffic safety. |
