In this essay, I reexamine fascism as a seductive spiritual desire through three distinct yet interconnected trajectories. The first path articulates Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari’s theory of the molecular unconscious and microfascism in order to deconstruct the psychic structure or spiritual appeal of fascism. The second trajectory draws upon Alfred North Whitehead’s process philosophy and concept of“concrescence,”theorizing their potential for heterogeneous co-existence and innovation. The third path traces the complex and widespread biological phenomena of cell fusions or syncytia, which have been observed in fertilization, placental development, viral infections, and various other processes. The crossing and reconfiguring of boundaries involved in these phenomena embody the entangled symbiosis of planetary life and inscribe polyphonic performative narratives of evolution. Through these interdisciplinary explorations, the human pursuit of spirituality is no longer confined to traditional humanist boundaries. It emerges as an experimental writing of planetary becomings, opening up alternative imaginaries and practices of the spiritual. |
