The complication following adolescent femoral shaft fracture treatment, although rare, may involve nonunion. Here, we present a rare case of an adolescent treated with a non-contact bridging plate for femoral shaft pseudoarthrosis after treated twice with intramedullary (IM) nail. We presented a case of a 15 year old teenager with comminuted femoral shaft fracture due to a traffic accident. Plating and rigid IM nail without screw were used initially. Nonunion of femoral shaft with leg length discrepancy was noted despite the initial revision of IM nail substitution. Another revision was done by adding Non-Contact-Bridging plate on the proximal femur without removing the nail. Full union of the femoral shaft was observed at 1 year follow-up. Our case showed management of femur nonunion fracture by using non-contact bridging plate on the side of proximal femur. |
