The psychiatric department at our hospital in central Taiwan Introduced therapeutic horticultural activities into its employee assistance programs, providing- participating employees an opportunity relieve some of their stress. In addition, we conducted group discussions aimed at improving their ability to cope with problems. To test its effect, we administered the Horticultural Therapy Well-being Scale, Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale, an overwork self-evaluation scale, and the Symptom Checklist 90R (SCL-90) to 10 participants in the horticultural therapy group before their entry and after six sessions. Result were analyzed SPSS 21.0. The significance level (α) was set at 0.05. After 6 weeks of participation in horticultural therapy group activities, the participants exhibited greater degrees of positive feelings, an improved sense of achievement, and increased social interactions. The participants had relief from negative emotions, including obsessive-compulsiveness, anxiety, worry, and hostility. Horticulture therapy can be incorporated into employee assistance programs to maintain or promotes mental and emotional well-being of employees working in high-stress environments. |
