All the hospitals in Taiwan have launched preparedness programs for the upcoming outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19, also called severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 infection [severe CoV-2 infection]) since the first case of novel COVID-19 infection was confirmed in Taiwan in January 2020. The hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Welfare immediately took several actions immediately, including establishing the quarantine station at the Emergency Department for quick nasal swab sampling, organizing transportation routes throughout their facilities for infection control, ensuring adequate personal protective equipment for clinicians, disseminating updated knowledge of COVID-19 for health-care workers, and proper isolating suspicious and confirmed patients with emerging infectious diseases. The hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Welfare should obey the orders and implement policies from the Ministry of Health and Welfare. When the COVID-19 pandemic started, the government initiated the chartered flight and quarantine centers for many Taiwanese coming back to Taiwan from various countries abroad. As one of the hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, we were responsible for providing medical care on the chartered flights and establishing quarantine centers and hotels. During this battle against COVID-19, the hospitals of the Ministry of Health and Welfare also played major roles in border quarantine control, community transmission control, and medical response and preparedness. |
