A 51-year-old male patient suddenly lost strength and fell to the ground while he was working. At the hospital, he presented fever, chills, faintness, limb tremors, and unclear language. After treatment in medical center, Centers for Disease Control, he was diagnosed as having the first case of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in 2017. He was subsequently referred to regional hospital. After admission, he received Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) consultation and treatment for about three weeks. During that time, he received acupuncture treatment, Da-Chai-Hu-Tang and Wen-Dan-Tang. The acupoints used in the treatment included DU20, EX-HN1, LI4, LR3, DU26, and RN24. After treatment, the patient was able to regain enough leg strength to reach his wheelchair and sit upright. His GCS from E4V2M5 progressed to E4V4M5. This case report might be used for reference when treating patients with Japanese Encephalitis admitted to hospitals with Traditional Chinese Medicine clinics. |
