During the modern and contemporary periods, the padlocks crafted by Naxi coppersmiths in Lijiang became a well-known specialty of Yunnan, commonly referred to as“Lijiang Locks.”The surviving Lijiang Locks are often engraved with various auspicious motifs that serve not only as decorative elements but also as unique cultural carriers. Among these motifs, the butterfly pattern is particularly representative, embodying a rich variety of artistic expressions and cultural connotations. Notably, butterfly motifs created by different artisans across different periods exhibit significant variations, making them worthy of a clustering analysis. |
