Although emergency resuscitation can save lives, the patient may not immediately recover consciousness, and some patients may be comatose or semi-comatose. At this stage, the medical team must help family members understand subsequent medical options, including termination of life support, long-term care, or organ donation. However, inconsistent physician explanation timing and lack of communication aids often cause family members to be confused about subsequent medical decision options, resulting in discrepancies between expectations and reality and leading to dissatisfaction. To enhance communication regarding medical decisions and increase satisfaction among family members following emergency resuscitation, our department implemented several improvement measures. These included designing models to explain medical tubing, creating a postresuscitation care manual, and establishing a shared decision-making system for medical teams. Additionally, we introduced a flowchart and posters to aid in the communication process. Before intervention, the satisfaction score was only 74.2 points; however, after the measures were implemented, this score increased significantly to 94.1 points. These improvements effectively increased medical decision understanding and participation among family members, improving fluency and satisfaction in physician-patient communication. |
