Cancer has become the leading cause of death in our country. Studies show that antihormonal therapy in breast cancer treatment may cause dental issues such as alveolar bone resorption, gum pain, and inflammation. In severe cases, dental issues can even increase the risk of developing cancer and metastasis of breast cancer, requiring active management. This case report presents a 64-year-old female patient who developed gum swelling, pain, and bleeding during breast cancer treatment. After routine dental treatment, her symptoms showed no improvement. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnosed her with syndromes of Stomach Fire, Qi and Blood Deficiency, Qi Stagnation, and Blood Stasis, and a concentrated herbal formula was prescribed, resulting in significant symptom improvement. A review of relevant literature reveals many studies on the side effects and treatments of antihormonal therapy following breast cancer; however, there is limited discussion on the periodontal diseases induced by this therapy. This case aims to share the effectiveness and approach of TCM in treating periodontal diseases induced by post-breast cancer hormonal therapy. |
