The National Science and Technology Museum(hereinafter referred to as NSTM)was one of the central cultural and educational facilities specified in the 12 Construction Projects determined by the Executive Yuan in 1979. It is the first applied science museum in Taiwan and the first national social education institution in southern Taiwan. The museum's establishment process is briefly described below: 1. July 1986: Establishment of the Preparatory Office 2. November 1988: Executive Yuan approved the overall construction and management plan 3. October 2, 1989: Construction began 4. January 1, 1997: Officially established as approved by the Executive Yuan and Ministry of Education 5. July 26, 1997: South Complex opened 6. September 21, 1997: Ground park opened 7.
