With the growing elderly population in Taiwan, the proportion of hospitalized patients aged 65 and above who are receiving nasogastric tube feeding has been increasing annually, currently reaching 18%. However, improper nasogastric tube feeding procedures can lead to complications such as vomiting and aspiration pneumonia, which in turn increases the risk of death and medical costs. Many elderly caregivers are responsible for administering nasogastric tube feeding, but they often face challenges such as functional decline, lack of attention, and limited learning ability. These issues may cause difficulties for them when learning and performing care procedures. Therefore, through appropriate educational tools, well-established care procedures, effective communication, and cross-team collaboration, the caregiving knowledge and skills of elderly caregivers can be enhanced, preventing complications and improving the quality of life for patients. |
