利用火山圖比較兩年（2022與2012）間台灣前10癌症五年相對存活率的改善

Using Volcano Plots to Compare the Improvement in Five-Year Relative Survival Rates of the Top 10 Cancers in Taiwan Between 2012 and 2022

癌症存活率是評估醫療效能與認識疾病結果的重要指標。然而，台灣政府在前10大癌症的報告中，尚未有效地運用視覺化技術來呈現其成果。本研究透過火山圖，對台灣前10大癌症在兩年度間的5年相對存活率（5YRSR）改善進行視覺化分析，以提升資料較易解讀。本研究驗證三項假設：（1）斜線圖比傳統折線圖更能清楚地比較存活率趨勢，（2）女性的5YRSR高於男性，（3）比較追蹤至2022及2012年的兩性前10大癌症5YRSR皆呈顯著地上升（改善）。結果顯示，斜線圖清楚地呈現存活率的走勢；2017至2021年（即追蹤至2022年）的男性全癌症及肺癌的5YRSR顯著地低於女性；僅女性及男性的肺癌5YRSR較10年前呈顯著地下降。本研究結果示範斜線圖與火山圖呈現台灣前10大癌症5YRSR的比較，並驗證了女性全癌症的5YRSR低於男性，及兩性肺癌5YRSR較10年前呈顯著地下降。此方法為醫療專業人員與政策制定者，提供一項易於認識台灣前10大癌症的內容與比較。

Cancer survival rates are essential indicators for evaluating healthcare effectiveness and understanding disease outcomes. However, Taiwan's government reports on the top 10 cancers have not effectively utilized visualization techniques to present their findings. This study uses volcano plots to visually analyze the decline in five-year relative survival rates (5YRSR) for Taiwan's top 10 cancers over two periods of years, enhancing data clarity. Three hypotheses were tested: (1) slope graphs provide a readable comparison of survival trends than traditional line charts, (2) females have lower 5YRSR than males, and (3) 5YRSR for both genders significantly increased (or improved) when comparing follow-ups to 2022 and 2012. Results showed that slope graphs effectively depicted survival trends; Overall 5YRSR for all cancers and lung cancer from 2017 to 2021 (follow­up to 2022) are significantly lower in male than in female; and only lung cancer 5YRSR for both genders showed a significant decline compared to a decade ago. This study demonstrates the use of slope graphs and volcano plots for comparing 5YRSR in Taiwan's top 10 cancers and confirms that females generally have higher 5YRSR than males and that lung cancer 5YRSR has significantly declined over the past decade. This approach provides an accessible and comparative tool for healthcare professionals and policymakers to understand Taiwan's top 10 cancers.
