This study investigated the admission pathways in academic performances among nursing students. By analyzing the data of the institutional research center from a university of technology, and 322 students were selected from the 2011 enrollment list of four-year bachelor nursing programs. To explore the effects of different admission pathways, including application, technical excellence screening, recommendation and screening, registration and placement on the academic performances. The academic performances were defined as the professional subjects of Nurse Licensure Examination ( NLE ), an overall score of nursing practicum grades and graduate achievement. The descriptive statistics ( mean, standard deviation and percentage ) and inferential statistics ( One-way ANOVA and correlation analysis ) were applied. Results showed that there had significant differences between admission pathway and academic performances ( fundamental medical subjects and graduate achievement ) among nursing students. However, there had no significant differences between admission pathway and an overall score of nursing practicum grades. The students’academic performances at school might response to their NLE’s passing rates. Estimating the NLE scores base on the academic performance at school should consider the student’s admission channel. The resultscan provide as reference forcurriculum design and strategies of recruiting students forschool. |
