With rapid technology advances, compatibility technology standards are becoming more and more important. Although these standard setting organizations (SSOs) have caught attention due to technology standards developing from consensus among companies, there is a lack of research on how Taiwanese enterprises participate in SSOs. Therefore, this study focuses on Taiwanese ICT enterprises and examines their participation in various SSOs from 1996 to 2014. These SSOs are categorized based on characteristics such as technical standard development, organization size, organization age, involvement of leading companies, and government participation. Descriptive statistical analysis and homogeneity chi-square analysis are employed to understand the differences in decision factors for Taiwanese ICT enterprises participating in SSOs. The results reveal significant differences in the participation decisions of Taiwanese ICT enterprises across SSOs with varying technical standard development, organization size, participation of leading companies, and government involvement. The findings of this research provide an exploratory foundation for future research on SSOs and suggest that Taiwanese enterprises enhance their proactive participation in SSOs. |
