The Central Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC) was one of party-run media enterprises which undertakings shouldering the propaganda works of Kuomintang (the Chinese Nationalist Party) and the largest scale film enterprise in Taiwan. This paper sorts out the balance sheets and income statements of CMPC from 1950 to 1970 to explore the company’s operating and financial situations, capital formation and financial operations. Besides, this paper also discuss the purposes of Kuomintang subsidizing the CMPC whenever it is in financial difficulty or facing a funding gap and the financial assistance methods Kuomintang taking advantage through its ruling status from public resources like state-owned property taken over from Japanese colonial assets , banks funds and government budget. Based on the historical facts presented by various documents and archives, this article uses the way of case study to list the examples of the Kuomintang subsidizing the CMPC in various methods through its party members in government departments and government-owned banks from 1950 to 1970, hoping to offer future references for future researchers of Taiwan’s film industry, transitional justice projects, and ill-gotten party assets. |
