The COVID-19 pandemic has ravaged the world since 2019 and some of the patients showed“Happy Hypoxia Symptoms“with blood oxygen concentration below the normal value of 95-100%. The patients usually do not feel obvious abnormality or discomfort, so it is easy to delay medical treatment and thus endanger life. In view of this, fingertip blood oxygen oximeter, which can provide real-time and continuous non-invasive blood oxygen monitoring, has become essential personal protective equipment for home care patients. The principle of the oximeter is based on the physical phenomenon that the oxygenated hemoglobin and deoxygenated hemoglobin in human blood revealed different absorption rate at different wavelengths. Two specific wavelengths of 660 nm red light and 940 nm infrared light may be selected, the absorption rates at these two wavelengths can then be used to calculate blood oxygen concentration. This study used factory specifications for testing the accuracy of commercially available fingertip pulse oximeters. Eleven samples from domestic, imported and China imported fingertip pulse oximeters were tested and the results showed all in compliance with the manufacturer’s specifications. |
