This aim of this study evaluates the therapeutic effects of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for oligozoospermia in infertile patients. We retrospectively enrolled male infertility patients with oligozoospermia and the patients were treated by traditional Chinese medicine at the Tainan Municipal Hospital in Taiwan between 2013and 2018. A total of 45 patients were included in this study. The sperm concentrations were (6.7±4.4) and (25.0±24.8)×106/ml after 0 and 3 months of TCM treatment (P < 0.001), respectively. According to body mass index (BMI), they were divided into two groups: BMI < 29 and BMI≥29. After 3 months of TCM treatment, the sperm concentration changes in the two groups were (21.09±23.62)×106/ml and (3.17±6.06)×106/ml (P < 0.001). The concentration of patients with oligozoospermia has been significantly improved through TCM. Compared to patients with normal body weights, TCM treatment was less effective in obese patients. |
