The evolution of the Marketplace space in the Chengdu area during the Tang and Song dynasties was clear and evident. In the early Tang dynasty, following the establishment of“Chengdu Market place成都市”outside the city, West Marketplace西市and South Marketplace南市appeared outside Zicheng, a suburban area. During the middle and late Tang dynasty (before 876 BCE), establishing Marketplaces was an important part of the suburbanization, for example, East Marketplace東市, Xinnan Marketplace新南市, Baoli Temple Silkworm Marketplace寶曆寺蠶市, and Zhizhen Taoist Temple Silkworm Marketplace至真觀蠶市. During the late Tang dynasty (after 876 BCE) and the early Song dynasty, after the construction of Luocheng羅城city,“street Marketplaces街市”soon became common in the Luocheng area. In the middle Northern Song dynasty, street Marketplaces became mature and stable. The spatial path of the marketplace in Chengdu City was consistent during the Tang and Song dynasties. Under the leadership of the Chengdu City Government, by considering both human and natural location factors, the marketplaces met the needs of urban expansion and life of the urban residents. |
