Li Yu’s novels do not forbid the theme about homosexuality. Three Migrations of Male Mengmu〈男孟母教合三遷〉and Cuiya Tower〈萃雅樓〉in two short story collections of Silent Drama《無聲戲》)), and Twelve Towers《十二樓》depict bizarre events in a time when homosexuality was prevalent, involving male castration and transvestite. Readers can observe the protagonists’identity changes after“castration”, the transition of male and female, and the inclusion and dressing of“body”. This involves gender migration between male and female, and the constant shaping of“I”as a“person”or“thing”by“others”and“self”. This paper attempts to scrutinize the presentation of characters based on the shaping and identity construction of You Ruilang and Quan Ruxiu. |
