Oligella urethralis is a commensal organism predominantly isolated from the genitourinary tract, known to cause not only urinary tract infections but also extragenitourinary infections. Herein, we report the case of a 93-year-old female with multiple underlying diseases who developed bacteremia and pneumonia following a urinary tract infection episode. The isolate from the blood specimen was identified as O. urethralis. The patient showed an excellent response to cefmetazole treatment, and the infection resolved with an uneventful stay afterward. Due to its slow growth in nature, this bacterium should be carefully examined and recognized by microbiology laboratories in routine practice. |
