1. Cryptocotylar (crypto, means hidden; cotyledon, a hollow vessel)-characterized by the cotyledons remaining in the testa after germination. (James A. Duke, Ann. Mo. Bot. Gar. 52:314, 1965). 2. Cataphylls-brown or hyaline scale leaves succeeding the cotyledons, as in many cryptocotylar species (1. c.). 3. Eophylls-the first few leaves with green expanded laminae.
