It is more than twenty five years since Masamune's Short Flora of Formosana was published in 1936. After that date the work on the taxonomy of the Taiwan plants was largely discontinued for about ten years owing to the War. However during the past decade. revisional studies of the flora have been greatly accelerated by the Taiwan botanists, though a complete new flora is still far from completion. A preparation of a new flora is indeed an urgent need not only for the biologists of Taiwan but for botanists in many other countries as well. During the school year 1960-1961 the first named author had the privilege of working at the National Taiwan University and together with the second named author made a number of collecting trips in various parts of Taiwan. |
