This study surveyed the differences in the word usage of the 294 popular Japanese songs performed in the「Kōhaku Uta Gassen (紅白歌合戦)」over the past six years, since the popular songs can capture people's minds and reflect social conditions. This study discussed the previous literature works and compared the differences for the words used in the songs performed in the pre- (2017-2019) and pandemic (2020-2022) periods. There is no apparent difference between the songs performed before and after the outbreak of the pandemic in the distributions of part of speech, type of language, labels. However, compared with the pre-pandemic period, the songs during the pandemic had more songs of increased difficulty, higher differences in fractions of the words used in「Love」,「personal pronoun」,「positive」aspects, and much less common words in the「Love」aspect than those extracted from previous literature. These observations suggest that love songs are not as popular in pandemic period as those in pre-pandemic period. The words in the「positive」aspect were relatively high in usage during the pandemic, suggesting the preference to have frontal songs to inspires people in the pandemic. The above results should be a good reference to Japanese language courses such as ''Japanese affairs'', and others. |
