In the historical development of museums, three trends have emerged: a displacement from artifacts to audiences, from time to space, and from exhibition to activities. Within the three central displacements, we can observe both the self-positioning of contemporary museums as institutions for the production of social meaning and their unique circumstances in the present day. This new historical period, driven by the audience, will bring significant emancipatory opportunities for museums as social organizations. This new historical period, driven by the audience, will bring about significant liberating possibilities for museums as social organizations /institutions. It will provide expansive space for meaning production, organizational structures, the realization of ''publicness,'' and the breaking of ''pseudo-education,'' among many other aspects. As a reflection of modern society's ''reflexivity,'' museums not only present cultural content that we cherish, but also provide a space for societal reflection and debate, becoming a crossroads where we continuously refresh experiences and judgments. |
