This paper will provide another a specially designed wave-sheltering vessel which is arranged on the upper wave side of the installation ship, to reduce the ship motion of the vessel. The ship motion of the installation vessel can be reduced to 1/3 to 1/2 compared with the original one without wave-sheltering vessel for wave period between 5.5~7.5 seconds, such that the working window can be extended significantly. Using the marine engineering software Ansys AQWA to simulate the ship motion response of the wave-sheltering vessel and the installation ship under waves. The ship lengths of the installation vessels 80, 120, 168, 216 m, and 80, 100 m for the wave sheltering vessels at the distance separation 100, 200 and 300 m between installation and wave-sheltering vessel are investigated. The pitch and heave motion of the installation vessel under the operation of wave-sheltering vessel are calculated. From the calculate results, it is found that except the draft and the length of the wave-sheltering vessel, the distance between two vessels is also an important parameter. Meanwhile, due to the low pitch and heave motion at head sea wave, the wave-sheltering ship can also be used as a comfortable hotel accommodation to provide engineers who work at sea. |
