The NCL Special Collections purchased 43 documents from the Lüfamily in Taoyuan, including deeds of sale, land ownership and tax payment papers, and right of land redemption contracts which date from the reign of the Qianlong Emperor in the Qing dynasty to the period of Japanese colonial rule. Considering that they involve the early development of the region as well as touching upon the Han Chinese and plains indigenous peoples, the historical and academic value of these documents cannot be overstated. In addition, three books produced in the Qing and seven from the early Republican era of certain cultural value were acquired. |
