The COVID-19 pandemic has posed significant challenges for nursing educators in ensuring that students remain motivated to learn and achieve the learning objectives of their practice-based nursing courses. This article examines the evolution of distance nursing education during the COVID-19 pandemic and explores the factors that influence the effectiveness of distance education. It also provides recommendations for enhancing distance nursing education. While distance education offers the convenience of flexibility regarding time and location, it is essential to recognize the value of face-toface teaching, especially when it comes to developing practical competencies in nursing students. In fact, both learning models possess distinct advantages and can complement each other effectively. This article evaluates the factors that impact educators, students, and assessments, identifying specific skills and areas of knowledge that educators should focus on to improve student learning experiences and outcomes. Particularly, understanding the concepts of flipped learning and exploring new models of blended learning, establishing cross-curricular teaching strategies, ensuring the effective integration of technology, and recognizing the unique benefits of both distance and face-to-face learning are crucial for integrating distance education successfully. Distance learning opens up new possibilities in education and can significantly increase students' learning effectiveness, independence, and motivation. By adapting to these innovative approaches, nursing education can thrive even amidst challenging circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic. |
