With the increasing worldwide aging population, various diseases related to the elderly are getting more and more attention. Sarcopenia is one among them. This disease not only causes a decrease in muscle mass, but also a decline in muscle strength and poor performance of daily activities. Sarcopenia can also cause falls, fractures, and increased hospitalization days. Physical therapists can evaluate the muscle strength and daily functional performance of the elderly, and then provide appropriate therapeutic exercise and functional training. Previous studies have confirmed that therapeutic exercise training can significantly improve muscle mass, muscle strength, and functional activity performance. As a mode of therapeutic exercise. resistance training is the most effective treatment. There are three principles of therapeutic exercise: specificity, overload and progressive training. Through evaluation and proper designation by physical therapist, therapeutic exercise can not only significantly improve the impact of sarcopenia, but also ensure safety during training. |
