This article aims to introduce the origin, diagnosis, and current treatment progress of sarcopenia. Sarcopenia has been confirmed to be associated with a range of negative health impacts in older adults, such as functional impairment, frailty, and increased mortality rates. Therefore, identifying, intervening, and treating sarcopenia has become an important issue in geriatric medicine. This article reviews current sarcopenia-related literature and suggests that treatment strategies for sarcopenia should include exercise and nutritional interventions, while research on multiple pharmacological treatments is also underway. Additionally, this article will explore how Asian populations can screen, identify, and diagnose sarcopenia to further establish individuali ed treatment goals centered on patients. It is hoped that by understanding and intervening in sarcopenia, the quality of life of older adults can be improved, promoting healthy aging. |
