Due to the unstable condition of newborns after birth and complex treatments, caregivers often neglect the parental stress in the intensive care unit. Neonatal nurses not only take good care of sick babies, but also improve the whole family system. According to the conceptual analysis method of Walker and Avant (2018), the study compiled relevant literature to perform concept analysis on parental stress in the neonatal intensive care unit, thereby clarifying its definition and characteristics. Additionally, we provided examples of model case, borderline case, opposite case, and relevant cases, and reviewed related empirical data. It is hoped that nurses could have a deeper understanding of parental stress in the neonatal intensive care unit through this concept analysis. It is expected that this concept analysis can provide clinical caregivers with early detection of severely stressful parents and offer strategies to reduce the stress and improve the health and future development of babies and their parents. |
