The International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11) was initially submitted to the World Health Assembly in May 2019, approved and publicized by all member states afterwards, and scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2022. The goals of this ICD-11 revision are to conform to the current trend of taking advantage of electronic means, to be able to do cross reference with modern electronic system terminology (such as SNOMED-CT), that can more effectively support electronic medical records, and to meet the statistical needs of finding the relevance among a great deal of different organizations for different purposes. It also makes amend for the deficiency of ICD-10 in clinical application. For example, codes associated with anti-microbial drug resistance do better fit in with the antimicrobial drugs defined by World Health Organization's global drug resistance surveillance systems. In addition to adding or revising the disease codes of ICD-10, it also increases the influencing health status, diseases of the immune system, sleep-wake disorders, conditions related to sexual health, traditional medicine conditions and related issues, supplementary section for functioning assessment, extension codes and total six chapters, make the code not only increases the depth, but also broaden the coverage. The concept of using the foundational components on the classification frame, every disease has its own unique identifier (URI), grasping the concept of multiple levels as parent classification hierarchy, Therefore, it can be classified in more than one location and searched and indexed from multiple locations; furthermore, it can used to introduce precoordination, post-coordination and extension codes for methods of code combination, in order to gather more detailed description of the diseases and their related health conditions. |
